Been Meaning To Share This With Everyone

Journal Entry: Thu May 14, 2009, 12:58 PM
I been meaning to tell this little story.

So I was going through my gallery and noticed that all the pics were bright ass colors with dark around it. I didn't really think about it much cause it's been the way I have always been.
I like bright colors and dark backgrounds (if any at all).

But then it hit me. Something not many people do know about me, is that I am half color blind. It's not that I can't see colors. But I can't see them in shades and tones. So it's been harder on me to use the toned down colors cause I can't see them well.
I couldn't tell you if I used dark blue, purple or black on some of my art. But it looks good. That's all I know.

It's been this way for may years and I am trying to train my eyes to notice the difference in the colors. It's usually tones too close like red orange and orange red. Or lime green and yellow green. Black and dark blue.

I used to have to buy crayons and colored pencils ONLY if they had the names of the colors on them. If they didn't I couldn't use them.
It has gotten better but I still feel like I am lacking a huge array of the spectrum in my work cause of it.
I tried different background colors which works rather well. Color wheels and swatches so I can see where the bar is. Little things to try and get around it. But I still notice the impairment in my works cause of it.

I will get by as I always did with it. But I wish I could do some really amazing coloring and shading. Just can't tell what I am doing sometimes.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Whoa your half color blind? O_O

Maybe you should ask a shading artists about this since I don't even use shading techniques in colors.

Sorry :(

I believe in Jesus Christ my Savior. If you do too and are not afraid to admit it, then paste this into your signature.

Yeah it's been kinda a curse for years now. Something I have gotten very used to. But still hinders me in some ways. Especially with teh arts.

I suppose one thing we could do is write down different colors using their RGB values, that way all you do is plug in those values in Photoshop or SAI and you know it's that color.

This is an ART SITE. Flash-bleached pictures of yourself making hand gestures that you took with a digital camera at arm's length are NOT art. MySpace is THAT way. -->

i would name the swatches if you can to what you normally use and get a reference for the RGB, hex, etc. colors, just list the values you use and try new values in your artwork.

and honestly i would never have know, your artwork is great and i never gave a though about the dark background, but the vibrant colors your characters seems to have is something i have always enjoyed.

Woofie, I myself would never consider this a curse, or a defect. Rather; it's your unique attribute. If ya'd wanna call it a deviation, so be it regardless of the name of this here website.

Woofie, hey; I like that bright splash o color against a dark tone background. It does appeal to me... In my coyote heart, you ain't anywhere near colorblind, not at all. Your talent, this 'yote admires, yes.

Jeez I just wish I cud make it to AC to simply say 'HI!' to you and some others.

My love is like the Tardis… It appears so small and blue on the outside. Once you accept it and enter, it is boundless inside.
:icondabigbadwulf:
Well thankfully you can't cause I won't be able to make it to AC. But I WILL be at FC in 2011. Thanks so much for watching my work. It's been a trip learning and training myself to do it better even with such impairments.

*giggles* Thanks much, yeah I only wish I could use softer colors sometimes. But I noticed the problem with the impairment during moments like that. I am sure I might figure something out sooner or later. Always looking for a new way to do my art.

Thankfully all the colors I use I know. It's just the softer pastel lookin ones I been having issues with. When I wanna do a softer pic, it never comes out that way.
